Teen Classes

Teen classes are open to all young artists, regardless of prior experience or training. 

All teen classes are held in Wintergreen Plaza. Classes begin February 11, 2024 and run through May 11, 2024. 

WINTER STUDENT PRODUCTION

Your child will work alongside accomplished teaching artists to put on a full scale 60 to 70 minutes musical. During rehearsals in dancing, singing, and acting your child will learn what it takes to shine onstage! With props and costumes, music, movement, and scene-work, your child’s experience will culminate in the performance of a full, youth-appropriate show for friends and family. 
 
Class cost: $750

Private Voice

Students will study the technical aspects of voice, geared toward the musical theatre genre, developing healthy skills they can use on and off the stage. Special attention and focus on breath support, resonance, placement, jaw and vowel work, and alignment, to expand and strengthen the vocal range. Students will also work on expression, artistry, and text exploration, working toward a sharing day performance for parents at the end of the semester. This course is guided by an age-appropriate curriculum taught by one of our qualified and gifted teaching artists. 
 
*Pre-requisite for this course is completing one semester of Class Voice at ATMTC or equivalent prior vocal training experience.

BEGINNER/INTERMEDIATE BROADWAY JAZZ

This class will help the student achieve strengthening of alignment, center core work, endurance, and range of motion. The class will always begin with a warm ups consisting of stretch and balance work. Every class will work towards learning combinations from some of Broadway’s greatest choreographers like Jerome Robbins, Michael Bennett, and Susan Stroman. The class will culminate with a sharing day for parents at the end of the semester.

BEGINNING/INTERMEDIATE BALLET 

Ballet is the center of all dance styles. Learning to strengthen and lengthen muscle to support the alignment of the body is crucial for all dancers. Class will always begin with exercises at the barre that will help with posture, balance, flexibility, as well as learning the 5 ballet positions. The class will continue with floor work and combinations where the students will learn ballet terminology, as well as learn how to use their body to move through space with strength and control. The class will culminate with a sharing day for parents at the end of the semester.

BEGINNER/INTERMEDIATE BROADWAY TAP

The art of tap dancing originated in the US during the 19th Century through a combination of African and Irish dance forms. Students will learn this percussive style of dance through foot isolation warm ups, rhythm exercises, core and center work, as well as have a good working understanding of tap terminology. Students will work on combinations to some of the most beloved tap shows from the Golden Age, as well as contemporary musicals. The class will culminate with a sharing day for parents at the end of the semester.

Voice Class

This class is designed to give the student a working knowledge and successfully execute proper diaphragmatic breathing, have a strong working understanding of resonance and placement, as well as jaw, vowel, consonant, and soft palate work. Students will achieve the understanding and control to execute a musical theatre “mix”, and will also learn music terminology, study basic theory, as well as work on their ear training and sight singing skills. The class will culminate with a sharing day for parents at the end of the semester.

Acting Foundations

This class will challenge beginners to use their physical and vocal instruments in tandem with their imaginations. Students will explore improvisation, active listening and response, character, objectives, tactics, and more foundational skill sets. The class will culminate with a sharing day for parents at the end of the semester.

Acting Scene Study

Appropriate for intermediate actors who have some foundational skills under their belt (improvisation, objectives, tactics), this class will focus on two important skill sets: scene/text analysis and partnered scene work. Participants will dive into guided text analysis and rehearsal under the coaching of a professional actor. The class culminates with a final showcase performance of the scenes they will be workshopping during the semester. Pre-requisite of Acting Foundations required or permission of the instructor.
