Elementary classes at ATMTC are designed to give children in grades K-5 a well-rounded introduction to the wonderful world of Musical Theatre.

Through acting, song, and dance our students gain valuable 21st Century Skills that will carry them through many areas of their lives as they practice Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Creativity, and Communication in a fun and upbeat setting!

Our elementary classes are designed to meet your child where they are, and take them where they want to go—no matter their skill or experience!

Spring Classes begin the week of February 12 and run through May 11, 2024. 

SING DANCE ACT (GRADES K1)

Students will learn a song and dance number from a popular age-appropriate musical guided by one of our gifted teaching artists. Students will also learn the basics of stage performance, vocal music, and will learn simple movement combinations that include beginning dance technique. This class is perfect for the child interested in exploring the foundations of creative expression.

WINTERGREEN PLAZA (ROCKVILLE)

Class Cost: $375

Ballet/Tap Combo (Grades 1-3)

This class is the perfect combination of two different movement styles so your child can explore the world of dance. The time is split equally between ballet and tap where they will learn basic terminology and how to build the skills of balance, coordination, counting, rhythm, and confidence! The class will culminate with a sharing day for parents at the end of the semester.
WINTERGREEN PLAZA (ROCKVILLE)

BROADWAY PREP (GRADES 2-3)

Students will learn song and dance numbers, as well as short scenes from popular age-appropriate musicals guided by one of our gifted elementary teaching artists. Broadway prep students will focus on adding emotion into their songs, scenes, and characters as they work on putting together a fun performance. Students will also learn basic music and dance terminology, and will continue working on building their foundational skills in acting, singing, and dance. While the skills learned in Broadway Prep will build on some of the basics taught in Sing, Dance, Act for those who take that class first, this class also serves as an entry point for any 2nd and 3rd grade students and there is no prior experience required!

BRIDGE TO BROADWAY (GRADES 4-5)

Bridge to Broadway students will work to extend their range and character development through dance, voice, and acting. Students will also learn how to prepare for an audition, work on script reading and improv skills, sharpen their dance skills, and learn the importance of working as an ensemble. While the beginning techniques learned in Bridge to Broadway will build on the basics taught in Sing, Dance, Act and Broadway Prep, this class also serves as an entry point for 4th and 5th grade students and there is no prior experience required!

CREATIVE DRAMA (GRADES 3-5)

Inclusivity is at the core of our values and mission at ATMTC and we are pleased to offer a course specifically designed for neurodiverse students. In this class students will experience instruction geared toward encouraging play, creativity, and imagination. We will provide a fun and safe place to make music, engage in the freedom of movement, and learn about the joy of theatre. The course is geared toward building social-emotional development, communication, and confidence building. This class will conclude with a share time with parents at the end of the semester.  *The teaching artists for this course have been trained and consulted by a board certified music therapist (LPMT).

MINI MUSICAL (GRADES 3-6)

If your child came to Summer Musical Theatre Camp and enjoyed themselves, this may just be the class for you! Students in mini-musical will work with a teaching artist to put together a short musical over the course of the 12 week semester. In addition to being cast in a role and learning blocking, choreography, and music, Mini-Musical students will get to explore some of the technical and design components of the theatre such as props, costumes, and sets. This class will culminate in a short performance on the final day of the semester for family and friends. No prior experience required.

Beginning/Intermediate Ballet (Grades 4-7)

Ballet is the center of all dance styles. Learning to strengthen and lengthen muscle to support the alignment of the body is crucial for all dancers. Class will always begin with exercises at the barre that will help with posture, balance, flexibility, as well as learning the 5 ballet positions. The class will continue with floor work and combinations where the students will learn ballet terminology, as well as learn how to use their body to move through space with strength and control. The class will culminate with a sharing day for parents at the end of the semester.

Beginner/Intermediate Broadway Jazz (Grades 4-7)

This class will help the student achieve strengthening of alignment, center core work, endurance, and range of motion. The class will always begin with a warm ups consisting of stretch and balance work. Every class will work towards learning combinations from some of Broadway’s greatest choreographers like Jerome Robbins, Michael Bennett, and Susan Stroman. The class will culminate with a sharing day for parents at the end of the semester.

Beginner/Intermediate Broadway Tap (Grades 4-7)

The art of tap dancing originated in the US during the 19th Century through a combination of African and Irish dance forms. Students will learn this percussive style of dance through foot isolation warm ups, rhythm exercises, core and center work, as well as have a good working understanding of tap terminology. Students will work on combinations to some of the most beloved tap shows from the Golden Age, as well as contemporary musicals. The class will culminate with a sharing day for parents at the end of the semester.

PRIVATE VOICE

Students will study the technical aspects of voice, geared toward the musical theatre genre, developing healthy skills they can use on and off the stage. Special attention and focus on breath support, resonance, placement, jaw and vowel work, and alignment, to expand and strengthen the vocal range. Students will also work on expression, artistry, and text exploration, working toward a sharing day performance for parents at the end of the semester. This course is guided by an age-appropriate curriculum taught by one of our qualified and gifted teaching artists. 
 
*Pre-requisite for this course is completing one semester of Class Voice at ATMTC or equivalent prior vocal training experience.
