Secondary Classes

Designed for young artists just starting their training and those looking for specific training that fits into their busy schedule, secondary classes are open to everyone, regardless of prior experience or training. These classes meet one-hour each week.

Acting Foundations

Geared towards young artists who are just starting their acting journey, this class will challenge participants to utilize their physical and vocal instruments in tandem with their imaginations as they explore improvisation, active listening and response, character, objectives, tactics, and more foundational skill sets.

Who: Students in grades 6 – 12 who are new to acting.

When: Mondays from 4:30 – 5:45pm or Saturdays from 9:30 – 10:45am

Cost: $475 (includes all teaching materials, 15 hours of instruction, and one complimentary ticket to each professional production that runs during the course of the class)

Acting Scene Study

Appropriate for intermediate actors who have some foundational skills under their belt (improvisation, objectives, tactics), this class will focus on two important skill sets: scene/text analysis and partnered scene work. Participants will dive into guided text analysis and rehearsal under the coaching of a professional actor to deepen the actor’s relationship to given circumstances and their scene partner. The class culminates with a final showcase performance of fully-memorized, two-person scenes.

Who: Students in grades 6 – 12 who have some foundational training/experience in acting.

When: Wednesdays from 4:30 – 5:45pm or Saturdays from 11am – 12:15pm

Foundations in Jazz Dance

Exemplified in shows such as Chicago and Cabaret, this highly energetic dance style, featuring precise movements, jumps, and twists, is often pivotal to the storytelling. Under the guidance of a professional dancer, this class will introduce fundamental techniques and vocabulary through choreography and practice.

Who: Students in grades 6 – 12 who have little to no previous training.

When: Mondays or Thursdays from 6 – 7:15pm

Foundations in Ballet

For dancers who are new to ballet, this class will utilize ballet barre techniques and exercises to introduce fundamental positions and movements. Under the guidance of a professional artist, focus will be placed on proper alignment and retention of knowledge.

Who: Students in grades 6 – 12 with little to no previous ballet experience.

When: Tuesdays from 4:30 – 5:45pm or Saturdays from 9:30 – 10:45am

Foundations in Tap Dance

From Bring in Da Noise, Bring in Da Funk to Newsies, tap dance has been featured beautifully on Broadway and beyond. Focusing on building dancers’ understanding and practice of coordination, rhythm, and vocabulary, this class offers students an exploration and practice of tap footwork, syncopation, and musicality under the guidance of a professional dancer.

Who: Grades 6 – 12 with little to no previous training.

When: Thursdays from 6 – 7:15pm

Music & Song Foundation

Teaching Artist: Andre Leonard

Participants in this class will explore their vocal instrument under the guidance of a professional musical director. This is an ideal starting point for actors or dancers who wish to add vocalist to their roles. Young artists will acquire techniques and strategies to expand their range and power while increasing their confidence to audition for that next show!

Who: Grades 6 – 12 with little to no previous training.

When: Thursdays from 6 – 7:15pm or Saturdays from 11am – 12:15pm

Broadway Music & Song Styles

Teaching Artist: Andre Leonard

For vocalists who are ready to take a deep dive into the expansive Broadway musical songbook, this class will allow students to tackle a variety of songs and styles. Under the guidance of a professional music director, students will select and perform musical numbers that span American musical history.

Who: Grades 6 – 12 with some previous vocal training.

When: Tuesdays from 6 – 7:15pm or Saturdays from 9:30am – 10:45am
