2021–2022 season

Unexpected Connections

Opening September 17th

Adventure Theatre & ATMTC Academy celebrates its landmark 70th anniversary season in 2021-2022. This Platinum Jubilee Season will feature five productions with an encompassing theme of unexpected connections.

This production season, Adventure will celebrate those bonds we least expect. The collection of shows uncovers secrets that connect family generations, make enemies into partners, helps cranky neighbors become best friends, and turns strangers into a community.

The season will be the first full season curated by Chil Kong, Adventure Theatre’s Artistic Director, who will also host Sunday’s preview.

COVID Protocols

As we move to indoor performances and in the spirit of protecting the most vulnerable in our community, Adventure Theatre requires everyone attending its shows to wear a mask regardless of vaccination status. A proof of vaccination or a recent negative COVID-19 test, no more than 3 days old, will be required for admission for all individuals ages 12 and up.

Luchadora!

By Alvaro Saar Rios
Directed by Ricky Ramon

The discovery of a worn pink wrestling mask prompts Nana Lupita, a Wisconsin grandmother, to share her tale about growing up in 1960s Texas. As her tale unfolds, Lupita’s life as a teen tomboy comes alive—bike riding with her friends Leopold and Liesl, working at her father’s flower stand and lucha libre. When a World Championship match is announced, Lupita anticipates seeing it until she discovers her ailing father is one of the wrestlers. With the help of a magical mask maker, Lupita secretly trains to take her father’s place. She soon finds it difficult keeping her secret from her friends and, most importantly, her father.
