GRADES K–6

No experience necessary!

Elementary classes at ATMTC are designed to give children in grades K-5 a well-rounded introduction to the wonderful world of Musical Theatre.

Through acting, song, and dance our students gain valuable 21st Century Skills that will carry them through many areas of their lives as they practice Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Creativity, and Communication in a fun and upbeat setting!

These 21st Century Skills include (but are not limited to): 

  • Creativity & Self-Expression – using voice, movement, and imagination to tell a story
  • Collaboration & Teamwork – working with peers to learn choreography and perform together
  • Communication Skills – expressing ideas, emotions, and character through song and movement
  • Confidence & Presentation Skills – performing in front of others and building stage presence
  • Focus & Discipline – learning sequences, timing, and following instructions
  • Adaptability – trying new movements, taking direction, and adjusting in real time
  • Memory & Cognitive Skills – memorizing lyrics, choreography, and performance cues
  • Social-Emotional Learning – empathy, listening, and respecting others in a shared creative space

Our elementary classes are designed to meet your child where they are, and take them where they want to go—no matter their skill or experience!

There are so many things that make ATMTC special. I could focus on the top-notch vocal, dance, and acting instruction. I could focus on the super entertaining stage productions. I could focus on the friends the kids make. But this time I'd rather focus on the staff. You can't help but feel it in every conversation, every interaction. The teaching artists, directors, and even those who work behind the scenes...they will blow you away with their passion for not just the performing arts but also for your child in particular. My daughter has really enjoyed her class! She is excited to go every week and feels like it's a great combination of fun and learning new skills. It's great that she is getting a chance to meet new people in a fun and creative environment. That does not always happen with after school activities.

My children had so much fun and learnt so much. As a parent it was also a joy to watch my kids come home and put on the music and rehearse their dance steps and lines. I was extremely proud to watch them perform in the Circus Circus show today.

The Spring Semester runs the week of February 16 through May 16, 2026. Sharing week is May 12 – May 16, 2026.
*No classes from March 30 through April 6, 2026, due to Spring Break.

SING DANCE ACT (GRADES K–1)

Students will learn a song and dance number from a popular age-appropriate musical guided by one of our gifted Teaching Artists. Students will also learn the basics of stage performance, vocal music, and will learn simple movement combinations that include beginning dance technique. This class is perfect for the child interested in exploring the foundations of creative expression.

Sing, Dance, Act’s songs, scenes, and study materials refresh each semester. We encourage you to take it more than one semester to reinforce the 21st Century Skills gained in this class. 

WINTERGREEN PLAZA (ROCKVILLE)*

Class Cost: $425

BUILD A PLAY (GRADES K-2)

Come create your own play! Students will choose from 2 different storybooks to read together in class, then decide on which one they would like to present as a play at the end of the semester. During the class, they will work on basic theatre terminology, movement, and creating characters. An experienced early elementary education Teaching Artist will help the students transform the book into a show complete with costumes, props, and set pieces! 

WINTERGREEN PLAZA (ROCKVILLE)*

BROADWAY PREP (GRADES 2-3)

Students will learn song and dance numbers, as well as short scenes from popular age-appropriate musicals guided by one of our gifted elementary Teaching Artists. Broadway prep students will focus on adding emotion into their songs, scenes, and characters as they work on putting together a fun performance. Students will also learn basic music and dance terminology, and will continue working on building their foundational skills in acting, singing, and dance. No prior experience required!

Broadway Prep’s songs, scenes, and study materials refresh each semester. We encourage you to take it more than one semester to reinforce the 21st Century Skills gained in this class. 

GLEN ECHO PARK
WINTERGREEN PLAZA (ROCKVILLE)*

Class Cost: $425

Musical Theatre Pop/Rock Class (GRADES 2-5)

Students will sing songs from KPop Demon Hunters and Matilda. 
Have a blast singing songs from these two pop-inspired shows and learn the basics of reading music, rhythm, and pitch. Also, how to express yourself while singing, and how to project your voice effectively and safely. Through this class, you will build confidence and musicality. The class culminates with a Sharing Day for family and friends on the last day of class. 
WINTERGREEN PLAZA (ROCKVILLE)*

MINI PLAY (Grades 3-6)

If your child came to Summer Musical Theatre Camp and enjoyed themselves, this may just be the class for you! Students in Mini-Play will work with a Teaching Artist to put together a show over the course of the 12 week semester. In addition to being cast in a role and learning about blocking, creating characters, and working as an ensemble, Mini-Play students will get to explore some of the technical and design components of the theatre such as props, costumes, and sets. No prior experience required!

Mini Play’s plays/materials refresh each semester. We encourage you to take it more than one semester to reinforce the 21st Century Skills gained in this class.

You know, not everyone likes onions. Join ATMTC Academy for Shrek, The Musical, Jr. Your child will work alongside accomplished teaching artists to put on a full scale 60 to 70 minutes musical.

BRIDGE TO BROADWAY (GRADES 4-5)

Bridge to Broadway students will work to extend their range and character development through dance, voice, and acting. Students will also learn how to prepare for an audition, work on script reading and improv skills, sharpen their dance skills, and learn the importance of working as an ensemble. No prior experience required!

Bridge to Broadway’s songs, scenes, and study materials refresh each semester. We encourage you to take it more than one semester to reinforce the 21st Century Skills gained in this class. 

WINTERGREEN PLAZA*

Class Cost: $450

ALL THAT JAZZ (GRADES 4-7)

This class will help the student achieve strengthening of alignment, core work, endurance, and range of motion in the musical theatre jazz style. The class always begins with a warm-up consisting of stretch and balance work. The students will explore different dance styles from some of Broadway’s greatest shows through the years, from Oklahoma to Hamilton! The class will culminate with a sharing day for parents at the end of the semester. 

WINTERGREEN PLAZA*

Class Cost: $450

PRIVATE VOICE (Grades 4-12)

Students will study the technical aspects of voice, geared toward the musical theatre genre, developing healthy skills they can use on and off the stage. Special attention and focus on breath support, resonance, placement, jaw and vowel work, and alignment, to expand and strengthen the vocal range. Students will also work on expression, artistry, and text exploration, working toward a sharing day performance for parents at the end of the semester. This course is guided by an age-appropriate curriculum taught by one of our qualified and gifted Teaching Artists. 
 
At this time, we no longer offer private classes directly through our program. Private Acting (Grades 4-12)

Whether you want to strengthen your knowledge of how to build a character, work on audition material, or gain more experience analyzing materials and sharpening your technique, this class is for you. Our experienced faculty will create a plan for you to meet all of your goals in a private, safe space. Get ready to release your creativity and get invaluable feedback! This course is guided by an age-appropriate curriculum taught by one of our qualified and gifted teaching artists.
