Teen classes are open to all young artists, regardless of prior experience or training.
The 2024 Fall Semester runs the week of September 3 through November 23, 2024.
This class will help the student achieve strengthening of alignment, center core work, endurance, and range of motion. The class will always begin with a warm ups consisting of stretch and balance work. Every class will work towards learning combinations from some of Broadway’s greatest choreographers like Jerome Robbins, Michael Bennett, and Susan Stroman. The class will culminate with a sharing day for parents at the end of the semester.
The art of tap dancing originated in the US during the 19th Century through a combination of African and Irish dance forms. Students will learn this percussive style of dance through foot isolation warm ups, rhythm exercises, core and center work, as well as have a good working understanding of tap terminology. Students will work on combinations to some of the most beloved tap shows from the Golden Age, as well as contemporary musicals. The class will culminate with a sharing day for parents at the end of the semester.
The Hip Hop style of dance was born in the 1980’s and has grown into a cultural phenomenon! Come experience the rhythm and syncopation, along with basic step technique and dance vocabulary, as well as freestyle movement. This street dance style of breaking, popping and locking will be a high energy experience your child is sure to enjoy!
WINTERGREEN PLAZA
Perfect for the teen who has always been interested in giving musical theatre a try! Students will learn song and dance numbers from a popular musical guided by one of our gifted teaching artists. Students will also learn the basics of stage performance, vocal music, and will learn simple dance combinations. This class will challenge the teen students with scene work with partners and ensemble work. They will also analyze scripts, dialogue, and characters.
This class will challenge beginners to use their physical and vocal instruments in tandem with their imaginations. Students will explore improvisation, active listening and response, character, objectives, tactics, and more foundational skill sets. The class will culminate with a sharing day for parents at the end of the semester.
The art of improv is based in imagination and spontaneity! In this class students will build on those skills and learn basic improv techniques. They will learn to build characters and tell stories, explore dialogue, and connect with acting partners to create a scene. Improv is about trusting your instincts and not being afraid to take a chance. Improv will help students grow in their confidence, creative choices, active listening, and artistic risk taking.
Students will explore classical playwrights and acting techniques. They will dive into the scripts and language styles of these literary greats. They will study body awareness and movement, voice and diction, and historical eras. But more importantly, they will become more confident in their performance expression and imagination as they use these works as a guide to sharpen their acting skills.
This class is designed to give the student a working knowledge and successfully execute proper diaphragmatic breathing, have a strong working understanding of resonance and placement, as well as jaw, vowel, consonant, and soft palate work. Students will achieve the understanding and control to execute a musical theatre “mix”, and will also learn music terminology, study basic theory, as well as work on their ear training and sight singing skills. The class will culminate with a sharing day for parents at the end of the semester.
¿Eres bilingüe y te gustaría explorar el arte de actuar en español? ¡Entonces esta clase es para ti! La clase desafiará a los principiantes a usar sus instrumentos físicos y vocales así como su imaginación. Los estudiantes explorarán la improvisación, la escucha y la respuesta activas, el personaje, los objetivos, las tácticas y los conjuntos de habilidades fundamentales. Los estudiantes trabajarán en monólogos y también en escena. La clase culminará con una presentación el día de compartir para familiares y amigos.
