In light of The Snowy Day and Other Stories by Ezra Jack Keats being cancelled due to COVID-19 Threats, we thought we would share how the process comes to be. The Set Designer is an important part of the entire design process as they create the environment in which our actors have to tell a story.
Ezra Jack Keats’ illustrations are so iconic that creating a set to honor his painted collages was no small task.
“It’s been a great process trying to bring this book to life,” says April Joy (Vester) Bastian, set designer for Adventure Theatre MTC’s The Snowy Day and Other Stories by Ezra Jack Keats.
A set designer is in charge of designing and creating the environments or the “sets” that appear in the theatre. The role involves working with and communicating with directors, producers, costume designers and other members of the Creative Team.
